Read this entire page before proceeding WHAT IS PDF? . . . AND WHY IT IS USED Portable Document Format (PDF) is the de facto standard for the secure and reliable distribution and exchange of electronic documents and forms around the world, with a ten-year track record. PDF is a universal file format that preserves the fonts, images, graphics, and layout of any source document, regardless of the application and platform used to create it. Adobe® PDF files are compact and complete, and can be shared, viewed, and printed by anyone with free Adobe Reader® software. IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT VIEWING, LOADING & PRINTING HANDOUTS: Course handouts are available on the Class Handouts page in PDF format only. They are continually being revised and updated to augment the class lecture series. Much of this site is graphics intensive. To view many of the pages properly, you need Netscape Communicator 4.0+ or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0+. Earlier browser versions may not work properly. All handouts are encoded as Adobe PDF files which will accurately print out as they were designed in format, size and color on your desktop printer. See requirements (below) You must download the FREE Adobe Reader 6.0 (or later) (formerly called Adobe Acrobat Reader) and install it on your computer to view any of the class handout files. 1.
If you have a pervious version of Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer
delete it now. Then update your reader by following the instruction in step
2, below. OR 2. If you do not have any version of Acrobat on your machine, click on the Get Adobe Reader icon, below, and you will automatically be routed directly to Adobe Systems' Free Updates and Downloads site. Select the appropriate Acrobat Free Reader icon at the bottom of the Adobe page indicate the version of the software for your system, download and install.
After downloading
your reader file, delete any older versions from your system,
then follow the installation instructions. From that point on, any
PDF format file can be read directly on your computer screen and/or
printed exactly as it was designed. This reader software runs in the background and
doesn't need to be "opened" to be used. Any file you have, or receive (even
over the internet) will automatically activate the reader and it will be
visible on your screen. For instance, you will not need PageMaker to read
files created in PageMaker, etc., but you will see exactly what a person reading the
file in its native application would see. |
